Shenzhen-based Insta360, a leading maker of consumer 360-degree cameras, has a tradition that glitters in unusual ways. For four consecutive years, the company has rewarded employees with gold keycaps as Programmer’s Day bonuses. This year, 21 gold keycaps were gifted to outstanding staff to celebrate Programmer’s Day on October 24. The heaviest keycap, the space key, weighs 35.02 grams and is valued at about 320,000 yuan (US$45,000). Over the four-year span, the program has delivered 55 keycaps in total, with their value more than doubling as gold prices have risen.
