Aleira Avendaño, a 33-year-old woman from Venezuela, has worn a corset for more than ten years. She says she wears it 23 hours a day, removing it only for one hour to rest and wash, and she even sleeps in it. The quest for an ultra-narrow waist is presented by her as a form of discipline and self-expression, not merely vanity, turning her body into a living sculpture.

16-year journey toward an hourglass silhouette

Her journey began in 2009. Now 33, Aleira Avendaño has dedicated 16 years to achieving an hourglass figure. For most of that time she wore a corset almost continually, only removing it for one hour per day to rest and wash — and she even goes to bed in the corset.

Discipline, art, and personal boundaries

A slim waist, she says, is not just beauty but a symbol of discipline, determination, and passion. It lets her see how her body embodies her efforts and vision. “This was a very conscious and personal decision, driven by my wish to turn my body into a living work of art, a form of discipline and aesthetic self-expression.” She adds that she has always respected her personal boundaries and never felt significant discomfort from corseting.

Health warnings and medical oversight

In 2015, Doctor Andres Ruiz warned: “From a medical point of view, you should stop immediately.” Aleira says her efforts have “slightly changed the position of some organs,” but she insists she never risked her health and was under medical supervision at every stage. She notes that long-term corseting can alter the position of internal organs and other body changes, including pregnancy, but maintains she stayed within medical guidance and never endangered her health. She has spent more than $1 million on waist work, and about $38,000 on seven breast augmentations, five rhinoplasties, buttock enhancements, and new teeth. She now aims to become the record holder for the thinnest waist, a title currently belonging to Katie Young at 38 cm.

The future, critics, and a new corset line

Despite ongoing criticism on social media, Aleira defends her choices: “Everyone has the right to an opinion, but I also have the right to live by my principles. I am who I am—without embellishment. I never sought to please others. This is a chance to break stereotypes and prove that anyone can be themselves.” She has grown accustomed to the attention and recently launched her own line of corsets, inviting others to follow her path. Her goal remains to maintain her ideal image while staying strong, healthy, and balanced, and she emphasizes that she is not chasing extremes but seeking harmony.
