I Died After Falling 18 Meters From a Cliff and Found the Truth About Humanity
Erica Tait, then 22, fell from the Palisades Cliffs in New Jersey in 2015 during a solo daredevil hike without safety equipment. She plummeted about 18 meters down the rock face, shattering her spinal cord, pelvis, arms and ribs, and puncturing both lungs. She managed to call for help on her phone, but she couldn’t give rescuers her location and would wait seven hours for assistance. During that time, she left her physical body behind and entered a realm where her consciousness no longer existed as an individual.

The 18 Meter Fall That Shattered a Body
Her injuries were severe: spinal cord, pelvis, arms and ribs broken, lungs punctured. The fall occurred as she attempted to climb down the rock face, and she faced a life-threatening situation far from any immediate help. The accident left her body battered and her survival uncertain.
Seven Hours Waiting for Rescue and a Disembodied Journey
While she waited for rescue, Erica described leaving her body behind as she drifted into an otherworldly realm. During that time, she exited the physical shell and entered a space where her consciousness no longer existed as an individual.
A Brilliant White Light and the Realization of Oneness
The near-death experience featured a brilliant white light she could describe as God or a universal consciousness. She learned that everything in the universe was one connected being, made of the same energy vibrating at different speeds. This revelation filled her with overwhelming love and showed her that our real purpose on Earth is to remember this oneness and live with compassion, because hurting anyone else would be like hurting ourselves.
The Life Review and the Objectivity of Judgment
Like many near-death experiences, Tait described seeing herself leave her physical body as she slowly died while waiting for rescue. She then went through a life review, where her entire life flashed before her, and she clearly saw how past traumas and choices had caused harm to herself and others. 'The only person judging it was the most objective version of me. So, there was no outside being telling me you're going to hell or you're going to heaven. It wasn't really that experience,' Tait said during the December 2 interview.
What Was Learned from Source: Oneness and Compassion
After that, she was pulled toward a bright light that felt like pure unconditional love and the source of everything in the universe. The light itself felt alive and communicated with her directly, like a loving presence that knew her completely. 'It was almost like information was being downloaded into my cells, and that was where I learned a lot about our inherent oneness, about how we are actually just this one thing. In this dimension that we call Earth, there's an illusion of separation,' Tait explained. The biggest realization was that we are all truly one being, so hurting anyone else would be like hurting yourself, and our real purpose on Earth is to remember this oneness and live with love and awareness. 'To awaken, to remember why we're actually here, what we actually are. That's been my sole focus ever since for myself to continue to remember and to continue to awaken to deeper and deeper remembrances of what reality is and to help the collective do the same,' she added.
A Soul Beyond One Life and a Shared Message from Source
Tait said she learned from Source that her soul continues beyond the physical world on Earth but is also part of one universal being. Her experience echoed accounts from other near-death experiencers who claim they received an extraordinary message during the afterlife, including scientist Nanci Danison, who described a similar revelation.
Not a Human Alone: The Persistent Dream that Reality Is Illusory
Nanci Danison, a scientist and devout Catholic from Ohio, told the Daily Mail that the energy source told her human life was an illusion, created so that Source could learn from observing human experiences. 'The most compelling thing was the information that I am not a human. I'm not a human being, that humans are animals that are indigenous to planet Earth and that what I am is a spiritual being that inhabited the human,' Danison explained last year. It was a remarkably similar message to the one 'downloaded' into Tait's consciousness, in which she learned her soul was part of a great whole and no longer belonged to anyone named Erica Tait once it left the physical realm on Earth.
A Transformation That Shapes a New Life
Tait's 2015 accident also shared similarities with testimonies from other near-death experiencers, who claimed they received an extraordinary message while journeying through the afterlife, saying that what we consider the real world is a dream. The NDE completely transformed her. She went from being an atheist who only believed in what her senses could prove to someone with unshakable knowledge of a spiritual dimension. Now 33, she runs a psychotherapy business in New Jersey, offering therapy that blends psychology, body-based healing, and spiritual practices.
